Karolina Jakaite
Lithuania
Karolina Jakaite is an art and design historian, and a doctoral student at Vilnius Academy of Art. She is currently writing a dissertation on Lithuanian graphic design in the Soviet period. In 2011 she was awarded a Research Council of Lithuania Doctoral Internship grant to conduct her research in London at Royal College of Art on Soviet trade exhibitions in the 1960s. She has been teaching history and the theory of design at the European Humanitarian University since 2008. In 2007 and 2008 she underwent an internship in design management study programmes at Helsinki University of Art and Design and the Danish School of Design. Since 2004, she has been an assistant to the UNESCO Chair of Culture Management and Culture Policy at Vilnius Academy of Art. As a culture manager and curator, she has organised art exhibitions and conferences, and various art projects in Lithuania and abroad. Her professional interests include problems of national identity, design in Soviet Lithuania, and the operation and management of design institutions.
